Showman Dares Fairgoers to Freak out
By Darren Bernhardt
He may have artifacts dating back to 1400 B.C. but Scott McClelland is more than a historian - he is a porter for the wierd, outrageous, shocking world of freaks and a caretaker of one of the largest collections of "twisted humanity".
The Freak Show - long gone from the carnival circuit after being mainstay - is making a comeback under McClelland's guidance.
Thats thanks to his assortment of 120 objects, from a three-eyed, two snouted pig, the severed hand of a criminal, to an actual shrunken head, a two headed doll covered in real human skin and the mumified head of a pharoah king, carbon dated to 1400 B.C.
McClelland's Carnival Diablo is the only such show in the world and Saskatonians are getting one of the first looks at the travelling museum of freak artifacts, daring people to "Enter the realm of the Unknown".
The show, only 5 months old, includes a demented looking ventriloquists dummy named Waldo, which is rumoured to be psychotic and responsible for the deaths of several people. But don't worry, McClelland has it chained to a chest containing 180 grams of lead shot.
