Short synopsis by director Thom Fitzgerald
Abandoned at birth, Tara Talbot is afflicted by the rare genetic condition hypertrichosis- she is covered from head to toe with hair. Adopted by Harley Dune’s Traveling Sideshow of Amazing Curiosities, Tara performs on the road as the Terrifying Wolf Girl, a savage half-animal/half-woman side show freak. Harley is like a father to Tara, while Athena the Fat Lady, Fingers Finnian, Buster the Human Crab and all the other sideshow freaks are her loving family. In reality, she is just a normal teenager who would trade everything for a chance to be “normal”.
Arriving at one small town, Tara finds herself the victim of relentless taunting by a gang of teens- Beau, Krystal, Cory and Whiffer fling dog crap at her during her act. But one local boy, Ryan Klein, offers her hope- his mother Dr. Klein is a scientist who has been developing an advanced cosmetic depilatory serum, which Ryan secretly administers to Tara. Soon the hair that has covered her all of her life begins to fall out. But as Tara transforms into a beautiful young woman, she undergoes a psychological metamorphosis as well. As her world changes too quickly, her mind falls further and further into the character she has played all of her life- the Wolf Girl. As Tara becomes more human on the outside, she becomes an animal within.
The more savage Tara becomes, the more the crowds love it. Though Harley senses her illness, he allows her to continue performing since the success she brings is the only thing keeping his show and family together.
Finally the day has come when Tara has achieved the look of complete normalcy- she looks like a beautiful young woman. But her former sweet personality is gone, and when her animal instinct takes over, the result is a tragic murder.
Distraught over what Tara has become, and fearing retribution, the sideshow travels on, abandoning her forever.
