Percilla the Monkey Girl, Howard Huge, The Human Blockhead, General Tom Thumb - at one time their fame was as great as Tom Cruise or Julia Roberts.These stars of the American Sideshow are distant memories for most of us, but they're also the inspiration for a new breed of sideshow performers.

"The New Sideshow" is a fun and exhilerating look at the new faces of the carnival sideshow who have taken their acts from the circus grounds to nightclubs, rock concerts, college campuses and even Broadway.

The people who brought you “ The History of Sideshow” in 1997 are proud to present a new ‘shockumentary’, filmed over the first week of April at Carnival Diablo’s 9th year Anniversary called “The New Sideshow”. The shows primary focus is based on sideshow as it moves into the new millennium. Sideshow made a major comeback in the last part of the 20th Century… but was it capable of moving into the future? This show looks at how sideshow is growing and changing with the times. It’s a voyeuristic look into the background set-up and preparation before a show goes up in front of an audience. Giving the public a little peak into the more human aspects of the Human Marvel World.

Proudly, Carnival Diablo is showcased as Canada’s only sideshow and forerunner in the industry bringing the public a completely new angle in presentation and format.

Cameras rolled as the troupe readied themselves for a spectacular night of sideshow feats and decadence. Interviews with performers and intimate background footage of the struggles and triumphs over the body modification and transcendence of pain are a focus of the documentary.

What possesses a person to become a Human Marvel? Why do they do what they do?

These questions are answered in a thoughtful retrospect of an evening with Carnival Diablo and other troupes and sideshow performers from all over the world.
